Volume Booster

Make quiet audio or video louder, or normalise it to a standard loudness, without harsh clipping.

Volume Booster

Recordings from phones, laptops and meetings are often too quiet. This tool raises the volume by the amount you choose, with a limiter that stops the loudest peaks from distorting, or normalises the whole file to a standard loudness (-16 LUFS, the level podcasts and YouTube aim for). It works on audio files and on the sound of video files, where the picture is copied without re-encoding.

How to use Volume Booster

  1. Choose an audio or video file.
  2. Choose "Make it louder" and how much, or "Normalise".
  3. Click Change volume.
  4. Listen and download.

When it comes in handy

  • Fixing quiet voice notes, interviews and lectures.
  • Evening out podcast episodes recorded at different levels.
  • Making a quiet video easier to hear.

Frequently asked questions

How many decibels should I add?
+6 dB is about twice as loud. Start there; if it is still too quiet, try +10 dB. Very large boosts also raise background noise.
What does normalise do?
It measures how loud the whole file sounds and adjusts it to a standard level, so different files play at a similar volume.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The video engine runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Only the engine itself (FFmpeg, about 31 MB) is downloaded, once.
