Add Subtitles to Video
Burn SRT or VTT subtitles permanently into a video, or add them as a soft subtitle track.
Processed in your browser: your files are never uploaded.
The video engine (FFmpeg) downloads once, about 31 MB, and then works offline in this tab. Processing runs on your own device, so long or 4K videos can take a while; keep the tab open until it finishes.
Add Subtitles to Video
Most social media videos are watched with the sound off, so captions matter. This tool adds subtitles from an .srt or .vtt file to your video in one of two ways. Burned in (hardcoded) subtitles become part of the picture, so they show on every app and platform; choose the size, colour and an outline or dark box. Soft subtitles are added as a separate track that viewers can turn on and off; this is instant because the video is not re-encoded.

Frequently asked questions
- Where do I get an SRT file?
- YouTube Studio, Premiere, CapCut, Descript and most transcription services can export one. Our VTT to SRT and SRT to VTT converters change between the two formats.
- Which languages work for burned-in subtitles?
- Languages written with the Latin alphabet (English, Spanish, French, German and so on). For other scripts, use soft subtitles, which the viewer's player displays with its own fonts.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. The video engine runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Only the engine itself (FFmpeg, about 31 MB) is downloaded, once.
