Voice Recorder
A simple, private voice recorder that works in any modern browser, on a computer or a phone. Click record, speak, and stop: you can listen back straight away and download the recording, or convert it to WAV for editing software that does not accept compressed audio. A level meter shows that the microphone is picking you up, echo cancellation and noise suppression are switched on, and you can choose a different microphone if you have more than one. Nothing is uploaded; the audio stays on your device.
How to use Voice Recorder
- Click Start recording and allow microphone access when the browser asks.
- Speak; the meter moves when sound is picked up. Pause and resume if you need a break.
- Click Stop and listen to the recording.
- Download it, or choose Download as WAV for an uncompressed file.

Frequently asked questions
- Which format is the recording in?
- Chrome, Edge and Firefox record WebM (Opus), Safari records M4A. Both play in modern browsers and media players. Use "Download as WAV" if another program needs WAV.
- Why does it say permission was refused?
- The browser blocked the microphone. Click the lock or camera icon next to the address bar, allow the microphone for this site and try again.
- Is there a time limit?
- No, but very long recordings use more memory. Download and start a new recording every hour or so.
- Is my voice uploaded?
- No. The recording stays in your browser until you download it.
