Noindex Checker
Check whether a page can be indexed: robots meta tags, X-Robots-Tag headers, robots.txt, status code, redirects and canonical tag.
Noindex Checker
A page that should be in Google but is not often has a forgotten noindex tag, a header added by a plugin, a robots.txt rule or a canonical tag pointing somewhere else. The Noindex Checker looks at all of them in one go: the HTTP status and redirects, robots meta tags for all search engines and for Googlebot and Bingbot, the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header, robots.txt for Googlebot, and the canonical tag. You get a clear verdict and an explanation for each signal.
How to use Noindex Checker
- Enter the page address.
- Click Check.
- Anything marked Blocks keeps the page out of search results; fix those first.
When it comes in handy
- Finding out why a page is missing from Google.
- Checking that staging, thank-you and admin pages are kept out of search results.
- Checking a site after a launch or migration.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between noindex and robots.txt?
- robots.txt stops crawling. noindex stops indexing, but it only works if the page can be crawled so the tag can be seen. Do not use both on the same page.
- Where does X-Robots-Tag come from?
- It is an HTTP header set by the server, a CDN or a plugin. It works for PDFs and other files that cannot have a meta tag.
