Text Similarity Checker
Compare two texts and see how similar they are, with cosine, Jaccard and phrase overlap scores.
Text Similarity Checker
How close are two pieces of text? This checker compares them in several ways at once: cosine similarity (shared vocabulary weighted by frequency), the Jaccard index (share of unique words in common), overlapping three-word phrases (which catches copied passages) and, for shorter texts, character-level edit distance.
How to use Text Similarity Checker
- Paste the first text and the second text.
- Optionally ignore common words such as "the" and "and".
- Read the similarity scores and how many words the texts share.
When it comes in handy
- Checking whether a rewrite is different enough from the original.
- Finding near-duplicate product descriptions or pages on your site.
- Comparing two versions of a document.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this a plagiarism checker?
- No. It compares two texts you provide; it does not search the web. A high phrase overlap is a sign of copying worth checking.
- Does it understand meaning?
- No. Two sentences that say the same thing in different words will score lower than you might expect. It measures wording, not meaning.
