Sitemap Visualizer

An XML sitemap lists the pages a site wants search engines to find, but raw XML with thousands of URLs is impossible to read. Enter a sitemap, or just a domain and the visualizer finds it through robots.txt, and see the URLs grouped into a folder tree with counts, the most recently changed pages, and checks for common problems such as http:// URLs, other hostnames, missing or future lastmod dates and parameter URLs. Sitemap indexes are opened too.

How to use Sitemap Visualizer

1. Enter a sitemap URL, or a domain to discover the sitemap automatically.
2. Click Visualize.
3. Review the summary and warnings, then explore the folder tree to see which sections have the most URLs.

When it comes in handy

• Checking that a CMS sitemap includes the sections you expect, and nothing else.
• Seeing how a competitor structures their site and how often they publish.
• Auditing a large sitemap before a migration.

Frequently asked questions

How many URLs does it read?

Up to 10,000 URLs from up to 15 sitemaps in an index, which covers most sites. Very large sites are sampled.

Is a lastmod date required?

No, but Google uses it when it is consistently accurate. Avoid setting every page to today's date on each build.
