Clean text reads the text of the PDF, works out headings from the font sizes, joins lines into paragraphs and drops page numbers, headers and footers, giving you light HTML to publish or edit. Keep the look shows every page exactly as in the PDF, with an invisible text layer on top so the text can still be selected, copied and found with Ctrl+F. Both are saved as a single .html file.

Frequently asked questions
- Can it convert scanned PDFs?
- Scanned pages are pictures of text, so "Clean text" finds nothing to convert. "Keep the look" still shows the pages. To get the text, use PDF to JPG and then our Image OCR tool.
- Are tables and columns kept?
- In "Keep the look", yes, because the page is shown as it is. In "Clean text", multi-column pages and tables are read line by line, so check them in the preview.
- Why is the "Keep the look" file big?
- Each page is stored as an image inside the HTML. Choose "Small file" quality to reduce it.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
