Text to Binary

Show the 8-bit binary code behind every character of your text.

Text to Binary

Computers store every character as a number, and that number is written in binary. This tool shows the binary form of any text you type, one group of eight digits per byte.

How to use Text to Binary

  1. Type or paste the text into the box.
  2. Click Convert to Binary.
  3. Copy the 0s and 1s from the result area.

When it comes in handy

  • Learning how ASCII and text encoding work at the bit level.
  • Creating binary messages for puzzles, games and classroom exercises.
  • Checking how many bytes a short piece of text really needs.

Frequently asked questions

Why is each letter eight digits long?
One byte is eight bits. Plain English letters fit in a single byte, so each letter becomes one group of eight digits.
Is binary a form of encryption?
No. It is only a different way of writing the same data and anyone can convert it back, which is what the Binary to Text tool does.
