Capacitance Converter

Capacitors are marked in picofarads, nanofarads or microfarads, and circuit diagrams and parts lists often use a different one from the part in your hand. This converter moves between the SI prefixes (1 µF = 1,000 nF = 1,000,000 pF) and the CGS units.

Frequently asked questions

What does the code 104 on a ceramic capacitor mean?

The first two digits are the value and the third is the number of zeros, in picofarads: 104 is 10 followed by four zeros, 100,000 pF, which is 100 nF or 0.1 µF. Enter 100000 pF here to check.

What is "mfd" on old capacitors?

Usually microfarads. Old parts sometimes use "mmfd" for picofarads (micro-microfarads).
