Why is my real cost lower than the result?

Many appliances do not draw their full rated power all the time. Fridges, air conditioners and heaters cycle on and off, and computers draw less when idle. A plug-in energy meter gives the real figure.

What if my tariff has different day and night prices?

Run the calculator once for each period with its own hours and price, and add the results.
